Ply exists because the people who design what millions of knitters make deserve more than pennies per pattern.
Pattern designers are the creative engine of the yarn industry. They decide what millions of people make, which yarns they buy, and which techniques they learn. Yet most earn less than minimum wage for their work.
The existing platforms treat patterns as isolated digital downloads — a €6 PDF, a 3.5% cut to the platform, and nothing else. The yarn sale that follows? The designer sees none of it.
We built Ply to fix that. By connecting patterns directly to yarn sales, designers earn from both sides of the transaction: 96.5% of every pattern sold, plus 30-50% of the gross profit on every yarn purchase their work drives. It's two income streams from the same creative effort.
Our ambition is simple: make it possible for talented pattern designers to quit their day jobs and design full-time. Not as a side hustle. As a career.
Every number in your dashboard is auditable. You see exactly how your earnings are calculated — pattern revenue, yarn attribution, GP margins. No black boxes, no "trust us" math.
Every product decision starts with one question: does this help creators earn more? If the answer is no, we don't build it. We succeed only when our creators succeed.
Ply is non-exclusive. Sell your patterns anywhere. Export your catalog anytime. If you choose to leave, your work leaves with you — no friction, no penalty, no games.
Ply is built and operated by Yarnhause — a direct-to-consumer yarn brand selling across the UK, DACH, US, NL, FR, and ES markets.
The founding team saw the same thing from the supply side that designers see from the creative side: the people who drive yarn demand — pattern designers — are the most underpaid link in the chain. Yarnhause sells the yarn. Ply makes sure the creators who drive those sales get paid properly.
Ply launched in 2026 with a founding cohort of independent designers. The platform is fully operational, with monthly payouts via Stripe, a real-time creator dashboard, and three tiers designed to grow with your career.
We're a small, focused team. No venture capital dictating our roadmap. No exit strategy that conflicts with creator interests. Just a yarn company that believes the supply chain should pay creators their fair share.
We're onboarding our founding creators now. If you design patterns and want to earn what your work is worth, we'd love to hear from you.
